Overview

Wayanad is a rural district in Kerala state, southwest India. In the east, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a lush, forested region with areas of high altitude, home to animals including Asiatic elephants, tigers, leopards and egrets. In the Ambukuthi Hills to the south, Edakkal Caves contain ancient petroglyphs, some dating back to the Neolithic age.

Kozhikode is a coastal city in the south Indian state of Kerala. It was a significant spice trade center and is close to Kappad Beach, where Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama landed in 1498. The central Kozhikode Beach, overlooked by an old lighthouse, is a popular spot for watching the sunset. Inland, tree-lined Mananchira Square, with its musical fountain, surrounds the massive Mananchira Tank, an artificial pond.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival Cochin - Wayanad

On arrival with meeting and assistance at the airport/railway station. Our Ghumney representative will meet to welcome and escort you and straight transfer to Wayanad. On reaching Wayanad check-in at one of our listed hotels. Rest and relax for a while in the hotel room before moving out to explore the Banasura Sagar Dam which considered to be the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in the Asia. Later visit the Meenmutty fall, gurgling down from a height of 300 meters, it falls in 3 separate tiers. To take a 2 Km trek to reach the fall and the view of the fall is worth the effort. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 : Wayanad

After breakfast leave to visit the tea, coffee and spice plantation in the region. Later in the day visit Kurva Dweep Island, situated on the tributaries of river Kabani it is a fabulous picnic point. This isolated island features an array of uncommon species of birds, orchids and herbs. Next visit the Tholpetty wildlife Sanctuary. It is a popular wildlife sanctuary of Wayanad. The watch tower of this sanctuary is situated above the lake and is the main water source to animals. Enjoy overnight stay at wildlife sanctuary. Overnight stay at hotel in Wayanad.

Day 3 : Wayanad - Calicut

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed for a sightseeing tour. The major tourist attractions of Wayanad include Edakkal caves, Ambalavayal Museum, Soochippara Waterfalls, Pookot Lake and the Neelimala view Point. After sightseeing take a transfer to Calicut. On arrival check into hotel and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 4 : Calicut - Cochin departure

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and visit Muzhuppilangad beach. This 4.5 Kms long stretch along the northern Kerala coast is the only drive-in beach in the state. Enjoy swimming in this shallow beach and feel the wind on your face while the sun works a tan on you. In time transfer to Cochin airport/railway station to catch your flight/train for your onward destination.
